Austin Schroeder at Barchart.com said, “Live cattle futures saw mixed trade at Tuesday’s close, with April up 35 cents and other nearby contracts down 7 to 15 cents. Preliminary open interest was up 2,460 contracts, with April down 2,284 contracts. Cash trade has yet to get kicked off this week.” The Hightower Report said, “The March Cattle on Feed report will be released Friday afternoon and the Urner Barry survey is anticipating on feed at 98.2% of last year, placements at 85.6% and marketings at 91.8%. The placement number looks strangely low; however, this is partly due to last year’s winter storms, reducing placements significantly in January with a large rebound by early March 2024. There was 1 more day in February last year than this year, which is one reason why the marketing number seems low.”
