Tick-borne diseases appear to be increasing throughout Missouri's rural communities, according to experts at the University of Missouri Extension. Alpha-gal syndrome, which can cause allergic reactions to red meat, milk, and other animal byproducts, is rising as lone star ticks spread throughout the state,  health and veterinary experts from extension said in a recent press release. The syndrome is spread through the tick's saliva when it bites a host.
