About 25 moms and grandmothers had lots of questions as they went on a tour of an Iowa and South Dakota dairy farm and heard presentations on the Wells Blue Bunny ice cream plant and the Dean Foods milk plant in Le Mars, Iowa.
Tour brings city moms to farms
A scratch brush adds to cow comfort at the Moonlight Dairy near Alcester, S.D., owned and operated by Josh and Lyndsey Windquist. Josh Windquist said the cows really enjoy the brush and sometimes are lined up two to three deep to be able to use it. “There’s seldom a time that it’s not being used,” he said. It’s part of the effort to keep the cows happy to increase milk production. It also helps keep the cows clean.
