Farming is a gamble, and right now many cattle producers are feeling a rare stroke of luck as market prices climb.
The U.S. beef cow inventory keeps dropping and is expected to be even lower when the July report is released from the USDA.

Fed cattle prices have hit an all-time high of $179.62 per hundredweight average in April. Feeder cattle prices are close behind with an average monthly price for 500-600 pound steers in May coming to $271.10 per hundredweight. The highest record for feeder cattle was June of 2015 at almost $300 per hundredweight.
