Custer, MT- Ranch rodeo in Custer, Mont. celebrates competition derived from working on the range June 20, 2015.The 9th annual Custer Ranch Rodeo packs a ranch rodeo experience into Saturday at the Custer Arena, two miles north of the town of Custer.The day starts at 9 a.m. with a ranch horse competition to show off the cowboy's most important partner--their horse. At 1 p.m. youth contestants under the age of fifteen compete in A Short Ranch Rodeo.At 2 p.m. the Custer Ranch Rodeo kicks off. Teams are comprised of three cowboys and one cowgirl who will battle it out to determine who is the best in branding, penning, doctoring, wild cow milking, and trailer racing.A Calcutta will take place prior to the rodeo for an opportunity to put money down on the best team. The teams entered are: • Bob Lile of Pompey's Pillar• Brad Mitchell of Hardin• Brett Marshall of Lodge Grass• Chad Fink of Hysham• Dale Sargent of Shawmut• Nate Roskelley of Sumatra• Sam Redding of Hardin• Toby Abel of Custer• Wes Sargent of Shawmut• Will Croft of Hardin Immediately following, bronc riders will battle it out in the Stockman Bank Open Ranch Bronc Riding, and cowgirls compete in the Open Ranch Gal Race.Keeping the ranching tradition alive a brisket dinner will be served at 4 p.m. by the Custer FFA chapter. The Ranch Rodeo costs $5 for adults and free for children.
