As we celebrate the 250th anniversary of the Declaration of Independence signing July 4, 1776, many are gratified that the experiment with democracy in the United States – based on the idea of inherent rights and responsibilities of each person – has survived so long. Sometimes it’s difficult to sift, winnow and separate ideas from facts, especially during celebrations. And while both ideas and facts are important, it’s the facts that ground us in reality and help us tell good ideas from bad.
