Some people enjoy camping during the summer. They may go to an established campground or in isolated areas where various wild fruit trees or shrubs may be found. These also grow on farms or ranches as part of the landscape. These trees or shrubs produce fruits which are edible. Among the shrubs may be chokecherries, (Prunus virginiana) wild plums (Prunus americana) or service berries (generic name: Amalanchier). On our mountain ranch were many chokecherries and service berry trees. It was always fun to come upon them in bloom. Later the fruits they produced would be used for jams, jellies, syrups, pies and muffins.
