August is a time when many gardeners are harvesting vegetables in their gardens. Pressure cookers, water bath pots, freezers, or even food dehydrators are in use to preserve the vegetables. Just a word of caution, however, in using a heavy metal pressure cooker on a glass top cook stove. I have heard both pros and cons about using them, as the weight could crack the stove top. Please check with the stove instruction book or manufacturer. Or the state university home Extension agent. The same goes for the small counter pressure cookers. Perhaps an investment in an electric hot plate would be safer.
