Researchers with K-State University have studied using the same specialty ingredients in the diets of both lactating sows and their offspring to see if it would increase feed intake of piglets post-weaning, driven by the attraction of the newly weaned pig to feed of a similar taste or smell as consumed by the sow. Researchers discovered that feeding a cheese co-product did lower the incidence of piglets losing weight immediately post-weaning.
