We’ve been saying this a lot lately but it was a year of weather extremes. Got an early start to planting. Really dry early, and that was unusual. We had that 6-9 inch rain followed by a 4 inch rain four or five days later in July. That dry weather messed the early corn up and then we went to that real heavy rain. That messed the bottoms up where we had a decent crop. We’re not looking at the best crop we’ve ever had. It is what it is. We didn’t have anything that failed to get a stand. We had a high wind come through the area in July and had some green snap in corn. We had a big machine shed it caved the doors in and blew the roof off. Course waterhemp is always an issue in this area — bad. We’ve got palmer amaranth in places, it’s not widespread yet. This waterhemp, if you don’t keep it under control early, your options are really limited if you fail to control it with the first spraying. Insects, I didn’t really see much of anything. We fungicided our corn and some of our beans. I’ve seen a little bit of dectes stem borer under some pivots. It’s been a great fall for harvest and we’re thankful we did have a crop to harvest. We’re pleased overall, the bad with the good.
