CAPE CANAVERAL, Fla. (AP) – An unusually strong solar storm May 10 – ranked 4 on a scale of 1 to 5 – posed a risk for high-voltage transmission lines for power grids, but not the electrical lines ordinarily found in people’s homes. Satellites also could have been affected, which in turn could have disrupted navigation and communication services here on Earth.
