A certificate is presented Jan. 15, 1952, to Dr. Bertha Reynolds by the state Medical Society of Wisconsin to make her a member of the 50 Year Club; she had practiced medicine for more than 50 years.

The grave of Dr. Bertha Reynolds is located in the Bear Valley Cemetery near Lone Rock, Wisconsin. The church was built and land purchased for the cemetery in 1875.

Dr. Bertha E. Reynolds, one of the first licensed female physicians in the state of Wisconsin, practices medicine in the Lone Rock area beginning in 1902. She had a reputation for always making her way to her patients regardless of rain and swollen streams or blizzards. Her medicine bag, some of her instruments and her saddle are at the Museum of Medical Progress in Prairie du Chien, Wisconsin.

Charles Lindbergh’s barnstorming career in the 1920s is well-documented. Dr. Bertha Reynolds in 1923 flew with the young daredevil in a plane like this, near Lone Rock, Wisconsin. It was four years before his famous transatlantic flight.

Dr. Bertha Reynolds crosses the flooded Wisconsin River in 1923 with the help of a then-little-known barnstorming pilot named Charles Lindbergh. It was four years before Lindbergh flew the Spirit of St Louis across the Atlantic Ocean to Paris.

I recently preached at a worship service at The Little Brown Church near Bear Valley, Wisconsin. I afterward asked some of those chatting over iced tea and cookies if anyone knew where to find the grave of Dr. Bertha Reynolds, the famous doctor from Lone Rock, Wisconsin. She had once hitched a ride with a young barnstorming-daredevil pilot named Charles Lindbergh. I had before the service looked for her grave in the church cemetery but couldn’t find it.
