This week started out with very big news for Sioux Falls. Smithfield Foods is moving its pork processing plant from the city center, where it’s been for more than 116 years, to a new industrial development on the north side of town.
"The fact that they’re staying here in this state, we just cannot thank you enough for continuing this partnership here in South Dakota,” Sioux Falls Mayor Paul TenHaken said.
Wholestone Farms cut the ribbon Oct. 25 on a butcher shop that will provide custom processing. Behind the building, land is cleared for a larger construction project, Wholestone’s $500 million plant capable of processing up to 6 million hogs a year.
