Prepare windbreaks to protect livestock from winter chill
Planting a variety of trees and shrubs along the edge of a feedlot can create a natural windbreak. Two or three rows of tall trees with a row of short shrubs will catch most of the snow and will provide downwind protection for about 20 times the height. They reduce the wind by about half of the original wind speed.
