HETTINGER, N.D. – With spring wheat and durum across the state close to heading, and flowering right behind it, producers may be planning to spray their small grains with fungicide to protect the crop from scab and other fungal diseases. Barley has to be at full head before fungicide is applied.

Scab continues to be a persistent problem for small grains in North Dakota and other wheat and barley producing states, and one piece of that risk is weather. Where there are pockets of exceptionally rainy weather and high humidity, there’s a high risk for FHB, according to Andrew Friskop, NDSU.
At HREC, fusarium is on corn residue.
