LISBON, Wis. — Due to high yields in Wisconsin, farmers are searching for temporary grain-storage options in 2016. Picking sites that are elevated and have good drainage is key to storing grain on the ground. The risk of crop loss is higher when grain is stored on the ground than in bins, so ground piles should be considered short-term storage and monitored frequently.
Temporary corn storage: Tips for success
As a record crop comes off the fields, international grain buyers have been in Wisconsin recently touring individual farms and agribusinesses. The U.S. Grains Council, in partnership with Wisconsin Corn Promotion Board, works in more than 50 countries and the European Union to market U.S. grains and related products and build long-term demand from overseas customers.
