The UW Board of Regents vowed to push back against the proposed budget cuts and correct misconceptions about how the schools function.
Rebecca Blank has decried a proposed $300 million cut to the University of Wisconsin System.
"They don’t need to look any further than the East Wing of the State Capitol," Sen. Jennifer Shilling, D-La Crosse, said in a statement.
The state's biennial budget may not be finalized until May or June.
