It’s been an overall blessed year for most in the region. Spring planting started off like a marathon. Some rains in late April and early May pushed a few planters later but were needed. Pastures and hay crops were abundant. Wheat harvest was well above average with yields. A dry spell hit in July and August that took the top end off some soybean yields. But corn seemed to push through it and held some good-to-excellent yields. Soybeans were scattered across the yield spectrum, but mostly good to excellent. Even most double-cropped soybeans seemed to surprise by taking advantage of a late August/early September rain shower. A warm fall allowed them to finish out. Collectively, we’ve seen some good abundance of grain from the fields this year. Crop prices are quite the opposite though.
