The Federal Trade Commission has issued a consumer alert warning farmers and ranchers of online scammers posing as farm equipment businesses and selling fake equipment. The scam is often conducted through social media, with ads for tractors or other farm machinery coming from what appears to be a legitimate business. The ads can also pop up after conducting online searches. After contacting the seller, they will then send a purchase agreement and invoice, requesting the money by a wire transfer, either as a deposit or full payment. They will then schedule a delivery date.
