On many operations, whether horses are kept for ranch work or for pleasure, the amount of land dedicated to horse pastures or paddocks can be less than 10 acres, making the management of manure a critical aspect, according to North Dakota State University (NDSU).
Manure management key to keeping horses on small acreage
Managing horse manure can be most easily done if a portion of the acreage dedicated to horses is used as a dry lot where horses can get out of extreme wet or extreme heat and activities like feeding and watering is done in that area.
