When producers make appointments to “cut the calves” I have learned that this can mean a vast variety of things. Maybe these calves are 800 pounds and cutting them is not something I really want to tackle. Or maybe “cut” simply meant “make a steer” to the owner and the appointment was actually supposed to be for banding. There are many ways to skin a cat, as are there many ways to castrate a bull. I typically use whatever method my producers want, but at the end of the day, I have to feel good about it, too. Here are some options to think over.
