DENMARK – Research has shown that a single pollen beetle has the capacity to destroy nine buds of oilseed rape, which is a significant loss to the crop yield. Various methods of detecting the pest are being used but results from new field trials suggest high-tech sensors are an effective method for early monitoring of beetle numbers.
