Bud and Marilyn (Smith) Shiftar cut their wedding cake. She first met him at the Corner Grocery Store when he was delivering milk. They were married in 1956 in La Crosse, Wisconsin.

Bud Shiftar wrestles a tiger at a show held at the La Crosse County Fairgrounds. The photo was featured in the La Crosse Tribune. The announcer at the show said, ‘Who would like to wrestle these tigers?’ Without even thinking, Shiftar jumped up and ran out onto the field and started wrestling. He didn’t know there was a man in a leather jacket sitting in the audience who was part of the show; that man was supposed to do the tiger-wrestling stunt.
