Madison College in Watertown is offering a Youth Tractor Safety course beginning March 7. Classes meet March 7, 14, 28 and April 11 and 18 at Lake Mills High School, 615 Catlin Drive, Lake Mills, Wisconsin. Testing is from 8 a.m. to noon April 25. The cost is S150. A $50 scholarship is available to participants who successfully complete the course. The course, for 12- to 16-year-olds, provides the requirements to be certified for compliance under Wisconsin Act 455 to operate tractors or self-propelled machinery for their own family on public roads. It also meets the U.S. Department of Labor requirements for youth ages 14 to 15 employed on a farm other than their family farm. Instruction includes safe operation of tractors and farm machinery, maintenance and safety checks, hazard recognition and correction, general farm safety knowledge, and tractor driving skills test.
