Both raised in Ohio, Lisa and Jeff Johnson moved to Nebraska the year after they were married. In 2012, they began Lonesome River Ranch in Anselmo, Nebraska.
Jesse Johnson, Will Arington and their daughter Landry work on the family ranch near Anselmo, and they are building their own herd of registered red Angus.
Jeff and Lisa’s son Ethan, right, poses while guiding a caribou hunt. While he works as a hunting guide throughout the West, he also helps on the ranch, making bull videos and serving as AI technician.

Half of the Lonesome River Ranch herd calves in the fall calving. It’s about having room at the ranch and having true yearlings to sell at the next year’s sale.
Weaned bull calves from Lonesome River Ranch in Anselmo, Nebraska, will be offered for sale in December. Jeff and Lisa Johnson sell about 75 bulls a year.
