“All hogs as of Sept. 1 came in at 98.5% of last year versus expectations of 99.2%, breeding herd 99% versus expectations of 99.2%, and market hogs 98.5% versus expectations of 99.2%,” the Hightower Report said. “The report was considered friendly and the weight breakdowns were constructive for deferred contracts, but near-term supplies are less tight with the 180+ lbs category higher than last year… Overall, the report should encourage a firm opening today, especially in the deferred months.”
