Wrapping cover crops as baleage
Jesse Kalberer wraps his bales of cover crops wet with a bale wrapper. He was amazed they were so fresh, and his calves went right to them. Later, he was shown the exact numbers on the relative feed value of the bales, and the numbers were “unreal.”
“A university student that was a friend of his son took some samples out of the bales that were wrapped and the ones that weren't wrapped, and I don’t remember the numbers exactly, but the amount of protein and nutrients that are lost from unwrapped bales, especially on the outside, were unreal,” he said. “You preserve so many nutrients and so much protein by wrapping the bales. It more than pays for itself.”
