Railway map
- Wisconsin Historical Society
An 1874 map from the Wisconsin Historical Society shows the West Wisconsin Railway route between St. Paul and Chicago running through the Wisconsin counties of Polk, St. Croix, Pierce, Dunn, Pepin, Buffalo, Chippewa, Eau Claire, Trempealeau, Clark, Jackson, La Crosse and Monroe. The route extended from St. Paul, Minnesota, southeast to the Wisconsin Valley Junction in Monroe County. The map shows the township and section grid along with the checkerboard pattern of land that was granted to the railroad – including the farm where Chris Hardie now lives. Map was from the West Wisconsin Railway Company.
