McCrossan Boys Ranch is known across the region for its horse program that has troubled youth working with one-ton draft horses.Now the ranch’s work will be featured for a national audience on the cable television show “Gentle Giants.”The feature will air on RFD-TV at 4 p.m. Sunday, March 8, and again at 7:30 a.m. Thursday, March 12.The boys ranch is a group care facility for at-risk boys ages 9-20 near Sioux Falls.The ranch’s equine therapy program teaches kids all aspects of living with horses – from grooming, feeding and tack to animal psychology, biology and riding. The goal is to help children recognize negative behaviors and learn positive skills that they can transfer to real-life situations.“Every day, our horses make a difference at McCrossan Boys Ranch. They change lives. They clam fears. They help teach responsibility and nurturance,” ranch director of development Christy Menning said.“Gentle Giants” features farms across North America that raise draft horses.Last August, the ranch was contacted by the host of the “Gentle Giants” show, Pam Minick, who was interested in featuring the McCrossan horse program on the show.Filming took place later that month.Show times are for Central Time.
