MINOT, N.D. – Filling the shoes of former NDSU soil health specialist Abbey Wick would be a challenge for anyone. After all, her Café Talks, DIRT workshops, and Soil Sense podcasts led to a global position with Syngenta Group, but Carlos Pires, the new NDSU assistant professor and Extension soil health specialist, says he has some fresh ideas about bringing soil health to farms that will engage farmers across the state.
On-farm research network to potentially offer fresh concepts in soil health
Carlos Pires, NDSU, said he implemented soil health on-farm research network in Kansas, which is where he received his doctorate.
In North Dakota, Pires said farmers would join the network and on-farm soil health research would be conducted on farms throughout the state and funded through federal grants and, potentially, by local commodity groups.
