MEDORA, N.D. — The worst thing Chad Hammerstrom ever witnessed was the sorrow on his mother's face when she saw the piles of dead cows and calves in snow-blinded herds pushed off creek banks on their ranch in South Dakota.
Ranchers reach out to ranchers hit by blizzard cattle deaths
These bred cows in a pasture west of Medora, and others like them, will be worth more in the market as ranchers start replacing the tens of thousands of cattle that perished in the Oct. 5 snowstorm in northern South Dakota and parts of southern North Dakota.
