Back in the 1980s, my dad was injured by a bull. He recovered physically, but like most farmers of his generation, he never talked about it. A few years later, someone from our community was seriously injured in a power takeoff accident. These incidents weren't unusual; most of us in agriculture know someone who's been hurt, or we've been hurt ourselves. But what struck me was the silence that followed. The unspoken expectation that you dust yourself off and get back to work.
