Drought conditions in the Upper Midwest worsened as farmers planted their fields this spring, causing some to shift acres away from water-hungry corn.
A survey of FBN customers indicated farmers planted 1.2 million fewer acres of corn than reported in the USDA’s Prospective Plantings Report in March. The USDA will update its figures June 30.
Much of Nebraska was under extreme drought, according to the U.S. Drought Monitor released June 18. Dry conditions impacted planting plans, especially in the western Corn Belt.
