Chad Bruns farms with family in Audrain County, in northeast Missouri. He grows corn, soybeans and wheat. He also raises beef cattle, with a cow-calf operation.

It’s good to be back. This past week there’s been guys planting around, both beans and corn. We started Monday (April 13) planting really good. No rain till Friday night (April 17); got about 1 inch. Fuel and fertilizer prices are the biggest problem. Cattle price is great. Hope everyone has a great spring.

We had a pretty good week of planting. The first corn and beans are up. We didn’t get any rain midweek like they said we would. It’s raining here now, Sunday night (April 26). The wheat is starting to head — looks like it’s early.

We got about 2 inches of rain last Monday. We got started planting again on Saturday (May 2). We’re about 85% done with corn and 40% done with beans. Things are slow coming up. Need warmer weather.

It’s been a slow week. A little planting done on Sunday and Monday then rain Monday night (May 4) and all day Tuesday. We did a little spraying on Friday before rain again. Crops are slow to come up. Sounds like a good week coming up. Hope all the moms had a good Mother’s Day.

It was a good week of planting. Got done with corn, got some corn sprayed, had a good run on beans. We should finish them this coming week. We got 20-some acres of rye hay baled. No rain on Saturday like they said. We could use some — not a lot. First corn and beans really took off this week.

Nothing going on this week. We had about 3 inches of rain Monday. It’s still wet and still got some beans to plant — hopefully no replant. Next week doesn’t look any better.

We had a wet weekend with about 2.5 inches from Friday till Monday morning. Most of the crop is planted in the area. Some replant and maybe more after this weekend’s rain. I got most all corn sprayed last week. Some of the early beans are ready to be sprayed. Wheat will be ready before we are.

Well, we had a lot of rain Sunday — about 3 inches. Most all the crops are planted — some of it twice, right before the 3 inch rain. Calling for more this week. Might be some wheat harvested later in the week if weather permits.

Another week of rain. We did get lucky and not really get any Saturday, got we have some replant to do this week and beans need spraying. Hopefully we’ll get some wheat cut. The early corn and beans look pretty good.

More rain this week. We had about 2 inches Sunday morning. It’s been hard to get wheat cut. Some crops are waterlogged, some stuff has been replanted and needs it again, and this week's weather doesn't look any better.

We had more rain Thursday night. There is still some wheat to harvest in area. The early crops look really good — should have corn tasseling by the 4th. Early beans are flowering, but we need to be spraying this week. The heat is going to be good for the crops. Have a good 4th — might have sweet corn by the 4th.

It was a hot one around here last week. The corn and beans needed it. Got a lot of bean spraying done — they needed it bad. Going to start on corn fungicide this week. Had a popup shower Sunday evening and got an inch and a half at my house. A farm just south of me got nothing. A lot of hay got put up last week around here.

It was a busy week. Got a lot of bean spraying done, some corn fungicide on, more this week. Friday evening (July 10) we had almost 3 inches of rain and a lot of wind and tree limbs down. We’ve got a couple of fields of beans ready to fungicide this week.
