Even though there’s snow on the ground and temperatures hovering well below zero, winter is the best time to be sure your irrigation system is ready to pump and provide water for the 2021 crop year.
Control panels always need to be inspected before irrigation season starts to check for damage by everything from cattle that had been grazing cornstalks, vermin such as mice and rats and any lightning strikes or winter power surges that could have damaged wiring or other settings.
Irrigation pivots are checked by drone flown 20 feet above the ground to be sure all nozzles are working and nothing is plugged.
