LEWIS AND HARRIS, Scotland – Farmers for centuries have had a close relationship with their animals and nowhere is that more apparent than on the Scottish island of Lewis and Harris. The island is the largest and most northerly of the Outer Hebrides chain; it’s reached by taking a 24-mile ferry trip from the west coast of the Scottish mainland across the Minch channel. The island is the largest in Scotland, about 58 miles from tip to tip. The island is one continuous land mass, with Lewis in the north and Harris in the south, divided by mountains.
