Harris Tweed weaving
A weaver at the Gearrannan Blackhouse Village on the Scottish island of Lewis and Harris demonstrates the weaving of Harris Tweed on a foot-powered iron loom. The process still qualifies as hand-woven; the islander at the museum showed us his speed as he operated the machine. Harris Tweed is legally defined as woven by the islanders at their homes in the Outer Hebrides, finished in the islands of Harris, Lewis, North Uist, Benbecula, South Uist and Barra and their several purtenances -- The Outer Hebrides -- and made from pure virgin wool dyed and spun in the Outer Hebrides.
