From green to gold – and back to green again. That’s one way to summarize what has been happening on our farm lately.
With farm acres and yields quickly outgrowing bin space, Feikema Farms relies on storage bags to store the crop on farm. The grain will be hauled to the elevator over the winter months.

Field work goes late into the day during the busy season when harvest is wrapping up and preparation for next year's crop is underway. Here, manure has been applied and now the field is being strip tilled. Seeds will be planted into that strip on top of the nutrients next spring.
Shawn and Becky Feikema are part of Feikema Farms based in Luverne, Minnesota, where they have transitioned to sustainable practices such as no till, strip till, cover cropping and diverse rotations. The Feikemas open their farm to showcase modern agriculture in an effort to educate policymakers and consumers.
