Precision agriculture is a buzz term often associated with crop production as technology continues to play a bigger and bigger role in farming. Livestock production, as it may seem, has remained a traditional industry with management practices more or less the same as they have been for the last century. However, Dr. Sam Wyffels, associate professor in Montana State University’s School of Animal and Range Sciences, notes that livestock production is an evolving landscape with variables like labor, climate, input costs and consumer demands to consider, so precision agriculture and the use of technology may be of help navigating the decision-making processes.
