The Madison School Board on Monday gave the green light to putting the district's $39 million facilities referendum proposal to a board vote later this month. After months of discussion and revisions to the proposal, here's the final list of proposed projects:
Allis Elementary: One new elevator and secure entrance, $1,992,000
East High: Theater renovations, $3,700,000
Franklin Elementary: Add two elevators, $1,153,000
Hawthorne Elementary: Build new gymnasium and two new classrooms, convert old gym into a café, convert old café to two classrooms, $3,000,000
Huegel Elementary: Enclose library, adding air conditioning to some rooms, replace windows, add controlled entrance, lockers, new ceilings, etc., $2,000,000
Jefferson Middle: Complete a major renovation including constructing walls around classrooms currently organized in an open concept fashion, add air conditioning, replace elevator, renovate restrooms, provide new ceilings and lighting, $8,000,000
Kennedy Elementary: Relocate the main office, convert the existing main office into two classrooms, add an elevator and add two more classrooms alongside the new elevator tower, $1,900,000
Lake View Elementary: Add one elevator, $379,000
Lowell Elementary: Add two elevators, ramps and one lift, $1,123,000
Mendota Elementary: Add one elevator, renovate exterior, upgrade heating and cooling system, new ceilings and lighting, $3,432,000
Midvale Elementary: Add one elevator and interior ramps, convert cafeteria into five classrooms, and build a new cafeteria and multipurpose room, $2,637,000
Randall Elementary: Add one elevator and three lifts, $1,000,000
Sandburg Elementary: Add eight classrooms and one gymnasium, $3,500,000
Shorewood Elementary: Add two elevators, $950,000
Spring Harbor Middle: Add one elevator and a secure entrance, $1,083,000
Van Hise Elementary/Hamilton Middle: Add a new library to share, freeing up seven classroom-sized spaces: four for Hamilton and three for Van Hise, $3,151,000
