The purchasing of the appropriate bull is a decision that should not be made lightly. The genetics from one bull can stay in a herd for up to 75 years when daughters are retained. Given the genetic impact, selection of a bull should be based on the traits important to your specific operation. When purchasing a bull, you should keep in mind the bull’s breeding soundness, genetic merit, and structural soundness.
