On-farm research aims to answer a particular management question by conducting a trial directly on a farm. Conducting a research trial on a working farm involves more planning, skills, knowledge, and attention than one may realize. One of these skills may be taking 2-foot deep soil samples rather than the standard sample. This video is designed to equip you with the knowledge to take these samples with minimal strain and help you obtain the most accurate samples.
Monica Schauer (Research Specialist, UW-Madison, Department of Soil Science) will walk you through the supplies needed to take the samples and will demonstrate how to use a soil probe with an extendable rod.
