ROCK PORT, Mo. — Under a blue sky on a spring day, brothers Craig and Pat Moore were getting their planter ready to go to kick off the 2026 planting season. At the edge of a field, the expanse of the Missouri River bottom stretched out toward the horizon. And across Atchison County in northwest Missouri, several farmers were getting equipment ready after a period of wet weather.
On April 20, Pat Moore filled up the planter with seed as Craig pulled up in the sprayer.
NORBORNE, Mo. — Rain has made for a challenging planting season so far in Nathan White’s area. White farms near Norborne in Carroll and Ray counties, both in the hills and in the Missouri River bottom.
After some very productive planting days early in the spring, progress has been limited in north-central Missouri.
RUTLEDGE, Mo. — After some rainy weeks, planting progress ramped back up in northeast Missouri.
Lloyd Ramer, who farms in Knox County near Rutledge, Missouri, said his area missed out on a potential rain on May 5, and there was a lot of activity in fields that week.
