Yields better than expected considering dry summer
OGDEN, Ill. — In areas where very little rain fell this summer, some farmers started this season’s harvest hoping for the best but expecting the worse.
“For the weather we’ve had this year, the yields aren’t bad,” said Stan Harper in eastern Illinois.
WEST FRANKFORT, Ill. — Randy Browning has found few reasons to complain this harvest season.
The Franklin County farmer is more than pleased with his corn and soybean yields. Harvest began in mid-September and should be complete by around the end of October.
Three generations harvest together in Northwest Illinois
ANNAWAN, Ill. — This time of year it is easy to catch three generations of the Verbeck family together in the fields in Henry County in Northwest Illinois.
Robbie is navigating the combine. Often his dad Dwaine, who is 75, is at his side with the grain cart, and Robbie’s son Zach, who just graduated high school, is driving the semi-truck.
SHIPMAN, Ill. — Harvest 2022 is shaping up to be a positive thing for Adam Gwillim.
“It looks good,” said Gwillim, who farms in Macoupin County, Illinois. “Corn is coming out as expected or maybe a touch better. Beans are OK. I was hoping they would be a little better, but they’re still good.”
