DUBUQUE, Iowa – Researchers around the world are working to develop solutions to reduce greenhouse-gas emissions caused by milk production. Enteric methane fermentation is responsible for almost half the emissions on U.S. dairy farms, according to the University of Wisconsin-Division of Extension. Manure management accounts for an additional 20 percent; “upstream” effects such as feed production account for the rest.
