Snow buntings appeared along Wisconsin’s Lake Superior coast late in October. For many the birds are a sign of snow, and sure enough, before the end of the month there was enough snow to shovel. But by early November green grass was again showing on pastures and mud was the rule in fields. Though drought maps of Wisconsin showed a diminishing dryness in some parts of the state, many areas – including the far north – continue to be abnormally short of moisture or in drought conditions.
