During Episode 37 of The DIG, Aaron and Collin break down the top three most interesting findings about soybeans in PFR in 2023.
1. Talc Replacement Study: Positive ROI with Exceptions
The PFR team's multi-year Talc replacement study identified three products consistently delivering positive returns: GroPak SBâ„¢, Seed Stride Bioâ„¢, and Seed REVLINEâ„¢ HOPPER THROTTLEâ„¢ SOYBEAN.
However, a negative ROI was observed with Stride Bio in Southern Illinois, highlighting the importance of regional considerations. The study emphasizes the potential of these products, with returns reaching $40-$50 per acre.
2. Starter Fertilizer Options for Soybeans
For farmers with 2x2x2 bean planters, PFR recommends two effective starter fertilizer practices:
30 units of UAN
2 gallons of Thio-Sul
These options yielded positive returns across multiple locations. For those without 2x2x2 systems, dribble tubes emerged as a cost-effective alternative. In Indiana, positive returns were observed with all dribble-applied products, while the Delta region saw no significant benefits. The study also explored the placement of 30 units of UAN, revealing that banding on both sides of the row is preferable for ground dribble applications.
3. Mitigating Soybean Stress with Proven Products
PFR's stress mitigation study identified three products that consistently helped soybeans withstand various stressors:
eXceedâ„¢ Nano Brown Sugar
Stimtide
ValuPakâ„¢
