Austin Schroeder at Barchart.com said, “Live cattle futures closed the Tuesday session with 17 to 47 cent gains in the nearbys and other contracts lower. Preliminary open interest was up 4,273 contracts. The cash market has been quiet to start the week. Last week’s cash movement was up $7-8 to $210 in the South and $212-216 in the North.” The Hightower Report said, “The USDA estimated cattle slaughter came in at 124,000 head Tuesday. This brings the total for the week so far to 243,000 head, up from 237,000 last week at this time and up from 239,593 a year ago.”
